“All-In”: Generosity
When we Choose Generosity, it is important that we approach this choice with understanding of two basic principles found in Scripture. In fact, these two principles go hand-in-hand. First, generosity is not displayed by the amount of money someone gives. For example, a person who has $10 and gives away $1 would be considered generous. Second, generous people give out of a heart of gratitude for what they have. They are called "cheerful givers" in Scripture. So, how do you Choose Generosity? Below are some suggestions:
Take time frequently to reflect on being grateful.
Consider ways that God has provided financially for you either now or throughout your life. Thank Him for His faithfulness.
The Bible says that we should give 10% of our income back to God (church or ministries). We recommend that households intentionally grow their giving by 1% every year with the goal to be giving 10%. Thanksgiving believes so much in this principle that we actually give away more than 15% of all offerings that we receive throughout the year to local, national and international ministries and missionaries.
Review your plan for giving to the church or other ministries. Do you have a plan? Is it intentional? Is it regular? If not, spend some time considering how you can develop an intentional, regular plan to give.
Is there an individual or family that you know that is struggling financially? What are ways that you can be generous with them? Grocery gift card? Buy school supplies? Help with Christmas? There is no end to the need for people who choose to be generous.
